Lena Ashwell, OBE (1872 - 1957) was a British actress and acting manager, known as the first to organize large-scale entertainment for troops at the front, which she did during World War I. [see Wikipedia]. This is a Lot of Two Pieces - a Real Photo Postcard by Rotary Photo postmarked 1904, and a bold ink signature on an 'autograph card - 'Lena Ashwell'. These cards were sold with envelopes so that the signator could return them to the sender with convenience. From the collection of an unknown who frequented, or worked at, the Empire Theatre in Coventry, and other UK theatres, in the early part of the 19th century. Inexpensive Lettermail postage required. Please ignore ABE quote as they are usuallky incorrect..

Old postcard from the WWI-era, showibg the complete lyrics in French to the immensely popular, WWI song, `La Madelon`. Composed by Back. The color on the printed postcard appears to be hand-colored. Reverse is postally used with stamp, cancel, address and long message. The message originbated from the 4th London General Hospital, in England, and, in the message, the writer mentions that he has suffered an injury to his eyes from Gas. Size - 3.75 by 6 inches. Minor edge wear.

Tere is some wear to the head of the spine and the spine is sun-darkened. Balance of blue cloth is only a little dulled. Weight, 623g.
