Souvenir card [not a postcard] marking the Liberation of Holland by Canadians & British troops in 1944. Image of Canadian soldier signing autographs for a crown of admiring Dutch. Artwork by 'Bing' - William Garnet "Bing" Coughlin - Canadian World War II cartoonist - born in Ottawa in 1905. Bing became the 'spokesma'n for the Canadian enlisted man. Featured as "This Army", his cartoons showed life as it was behind the lines and up at the front, always taking the view of the common soldier. As often as not, the officers were shown less sympathetically than the Germans. Bing’s ubiquitous Canadian foot soldier was named "Herbie". Reverse is blank. Small ink blot to the front edge. A Canadian soldier has written along the bottom ' 'This is just about how it is'. Shipping via inexpensive Canada Post Lettermail.
